DESCRIPTION:We have plans to do more this autumn and winter to further improve the biodiversity in Prestow Woods. We will be running some volunteer sessions to help make them happen.\n\n\n\n\nWe need to remove invasive Privet and Ivy from some clearings to provide the space for a greater variety of plants (in line with advice from Avon Wildlife Trust).\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing on from work last year\, and further advice from Avon Wildlife Trust\, we will have more of the non-native Holme Oak trees felled. These are a broad leaved evergreens that cut out so much light that nothing grows underneath them.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will need to move felled timber and cuttings to clear the ground and to create dead hedges and wildlife refuges.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will also need to plant some trees to replace those we lost this summer and to diversify some clearings.\n\n\n\n\nVolunteering sessions\n\n\nWe will be trying a new approach to the timing of volunteer sessions. Based on the successful approach used by other organisations\, we will try using a fixed pattern of days and times in the hope that it helps people with their planning to get involved.\n\n\nFor the rest of this year we will run volunteer sessions on the 1st and 3rd Thursday afternoons and the 4th Saturday morning of the month.

SUMMARY:Prestow Woods - plans for the autumn and winter and volunteer dates
DESCRIPTION:We have plans to do more this autumn and winter to further improve the biodiversity in Prestow Woods. We will be running some volunteer sessions to help make them happen.\n\n\n\n\nWe need to remove invasive Privet and Ivy from some clearings to provide the space for a greater variety of plants (in line with advice from Avon Wildlife Trust).\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFollowing on from work last year\, and further advice from Avon Wildlife Trust\, we will have more of the non-native Holme Oak trees felled. These are a broad leaved evergreens that cut out so much light that nothing grows underneath them.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will need to move felled timber and cuttings to clear the ground and to create dead hedges and wildlife refuges.\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe will also need to plant some trees to replace those we lost this summer and to diversify some clearings.\n\n\n\n\nVolunteering sessions\n\n\nWe will be trying a new approach to the timing of volunteer sessions. Based on the successful approach used by other organisations\, we will try using a fixed pattern of days and times in the hope that it helps people with their planning to get involved.\n\n\nFor the rest of this year we will run volunteer sessions on the 1st and 3rd Thursday afternoons and the 4th Saturday morning of the month.

SUMMARY:“Give us this day: songs of life and hope” - A showcase of the diversity of the Trinity Singers
DESCRIPTION:Local choir Trinity Singers\, based in Churchill\, is well-known for the wide array of music\noffered in its programmes. On Saturday 25th October\, at All Saints Church Wrington\, the\nchoir presents a programme enGtled “Give us this day: songs of life and hope”\, which will\nagain showcase this diversity.\nThere are stories of life\, love and faithlessness\, presented in arrangements of folksongs by\nJohn RuNer and others. These include variants on the archetypal ‘Young man meets maid\,\npursues maid\, betrays maid’ tale\, as well as the rather less common ‘Old lady drowns\nhusband in the river’.\nThere are stories of struggle\, resistance and hope\, including the popular spirituals “Steal\naway”\, “Go down\, Moses” and “Were you there?” There is Ethel Smyth’s sGrring suffrageNe\nanthem “March of the Women”\, plus the first performance of a new work\, “Sympathy”\,\nspecially wriNen for the concert by local composer Nick Varley.
