SUMMARY:Prestow Woods Tree Planting Session
DESCRIPTION:There have been lots of improvements in the woods and lots to see since I last posted on FaceBook. \n\n\n\n\nThe paths have been completed and signposted and there are boards with information about the woods and lime kilns. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWe have a scavenger hunt in place for the little ones with lots of small coloured figurines representing woodland fauna and flora\, for seekers to find in the woods near the lower paths. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOur volunteers have put in dozens of saplings in very satisfying planting sessions.\n\n\n\n\nHowever\, there are still dozens more trees to to plant. We hope that we can finish the planting with two more volunteer sessions\, on the dates above\, if they are well supported. \n\n\n\n\n\nVolunteers for the session(s) need to wear stout shoes/wellies and bring a spade and/or trowel to help with the planting. It would also be good if you could bring along a long screwdriver or other implement to make a hole in the ground for the supporting canes. No previous experience of tree planting is needed. \n\n\n\n\n\nPlease let me know if you can come along to help and in the meantime please have a look at what the project has achieved in the woods.

SUMMARY:Prestow Wood - Volunteer date
DESCRIPTION:Sunday 3rd November 10-12 to prepare the ground for planting saplings and clearing glass and ivy and brambles that are growing back in some of the areas we have already cleared. \n\n\n\n\nThe working party on 27th October was a great success. The small group of volunteers worked hard to move to the side of the clearing\, the trunks and branches from the ash trees that had to be felled .\n\n\nIt was satisfying work with the usual half time break for tea and cake.\n\n\nThere is still some more tidying up to be done in this and the other new clearings\, but we will soon be planting saplings to increase the diversity of trees in the wood.\n\n\nWe will be taking delivery of the saplings in early November and need to plant them be the end of the year to maximise their chances of doing well.

DESCRIPTION:These are the dates and activities we are looking at in October:\n\n\nSunday 13th October: 10.00 – 12.00\n\n\nTo clear some of the felled timber and branches and to build some dead/dry hedges\n\n\nSunday 20th October: 14.00 – 16.00\n\n\nTo clear glass from the paths in the wood\n\n\nSaturday 26th October: 10.00 – 12.00\n\n\nTo finish clearing felled timber and branches and build some dead/dry hedges\n\n\nWe will see how much we get done before setting dates for November and beyond:\n\n\nPlease let me know if you can make any of these dates or if you have any suggestions for how to enable more people to get involved in the project.
