The whole weekend started as a memorial event to Marjorie Glynn who was largely responsible for motivating the donation and working of new kneelers. Her ‘year’s mind’ falls on 17th, and so we planned a celebration which, like Topsy, grew into the wonderful event in which so many in Redhill became involved. As well as the kneelers, Phillip Glynn put on an art exhibition; nearly all the paintings were for sale and we were delighted to have two paintings donated by the celebrated Ruth Baker-Walton – a Redhill Resident – whose contributions were sold by silent auction. To our delight Noriko Shorney was able to play two half-hour organ recitals, accompanied by husband Neil and on each occasion about forty people heard this very talented organ scholar. |

The Church looked resplendent! Not only kneelers and paintings but floribunda in profusion – ably co-ordinated by Nancy Broad and achieved by a wonderful band for floral artists. All in all there was a lot to see in the Church and it was a treat to welcome many old friends from across the benefice. A huge amount of hard work went into producing a Ploughman’s Lunch in the village hall and Hilary Vowles was responsible for making this such a massive success! She and her team worked ceaselessly and over ninety lunches were sold! Marion Grimes and Pat Wells were so overwhelmed with the amount of gifts for the Raffle – they needed another table! Their efforts raised just under £200 which was another huge plus. All in all it was a wonderful weekend, rounded off by our traditional Harvest Festival evensong when we welcomed others from across the benefice. The ‘Open Day/Weekend’ brought many people together in an enthusiastic determination to make the event a great success and we all feel very blessed by everyone’s staggering generosity but in the end our blessings came from Our Lord who also gave us a SUNNY day ……. The first for a very long time! |
