Nancy loved the old house, and the area was absolutely beautiful

We negotiated with Miss Giles, and she'd talk about anything but the business, and we left exhausted.

So we decided to negotiate by telephone, and one day I made her an offer she couldn't refuse, and here we are.
Tell him about the bit where you shook hands, because that doesn't happen these days.

Well, yes, she said "OK Mr Temple that's a deal", and shook hands - there was no gazumping in those days.
The business hasn't really changed.


Spar came here when we first arrived
and they wanted us to knock down the wall of the dining room and turn it into a stock room and deal with them ....



.. but we didn't really want to be tied to anyone, be independent .....
....If the independent chap can go round himself to the cash and carries and see what's on offer ..

... if he's got the sort of shop where he's not missed .. like this shop ..

When you're tied, you've got to pay them a percentage for delivering the goods ...

.. we found it's far better to keep independent .. all you've got to do is keep going
