Top of School Road at Branches Cross

A quarter of a mile past the school, at the top of School Road, is Branches Cross from where
you can look back over the village.

The road is joined by Roper's Lane the far end of which joins the West Hay road, and continues as Long Lane to Redhill and the A38 Bristol - Exeter road.

Tradition has it the name 'Roper's Lane', and the so-called 'hanging tree' at the junction, recall the punishments meted out by Hanging Judge Jeffreys after the Monmouth rebellion - but, as Mr Roper might have said, that's tradition for you !
