Prestow Woods Update

October 13 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Update on Prestow Woods Nature Reserve and volunteering opportunities
Hello everyone
I hope that you all had a good summer and that you found some time to get up to Prestow Woods to see the progress with the lime kiln restoration and to explore the new paths and steps.
The nesting season is well and truly over so we can start work to clear more of the dead and dying Ash trees that are a danger and, following advice from Avon Wildlife Trust, the invasive Holm Oak trees that are blocking out light and preventing more diverse flora developing.
Over the next couple of months we will need to clear away felled timber and branches, plant new saplings, keep ground covering plants under control and clear the glass that is appearing on the footpaths. We will also building a final path to create a nice walk around the woods and going up to a new view point.
We hope this will mean there are a range of volunteering opportunities that will suit people in terms of timing and the type of activity we will be organising.
We have a small core of regular volunteers but would appreciate help from more people who would like to get involved in doing something in the outdoors, meeting other volunteers and making a contribution to our community.
If you would like to get involved please contact me through FaceBook or send me an email at pwnrvolunteers@gmail.com
Based on last year’s activity, weekends seem to be the most popular with a mix of mornings and afternoons. However, mid-week might work better for some people. If you would prefer a mid week date please let me know.
These are the dates and activities we are looking at in October:
