An exhibition of work by villagers and the two professionals who inspired and organised the whole project -
Ann Dale & Tina Gue
held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday, 2nd December and Sunday, 3rd December, 2000
Ann Dale joins some early visitors
inspecting the main photograph on
display -
a 4' blow-up of the photograph of all
villagers who turned up in All Saints'
churchyard at noon on 2nd September.
I would have liked to see more of the actual photographs taken by people, and more of the butcher, the baker, the candlestick maker and their old parents... Do think it was such a good millenium idea."
Some people were able to identify themselves in the exhibits
Shots by and of children were
much in evidence
"Many thanks for sending the Wrington website with news of the project. I really enjoyed it and can just imagine how people loved that big pic of everyone next to the church ....
The crowd round the main picture ....... ...... just grew and grew !
There was much sorting out of who was
standing exactly where !
Tina Gue presents her certificate to one of the prizewinners - Sue Clark - whose
portrait, seated at the All Saints' organ, featured elsewhere !
a bedroom (anonymous) if you weren't sure !
From the moment of its opening at 12 noon on the Saturday, the large numbers of people visiting the exhibition testified to how much interest had been generated in the whole project.
Didn't she do well !
..... and still the main picture
drew them !

Val Yeoman never disappoints with her vast collection of photos of Wrington
One of Wrington's best loved long-term residents is Professor John Hudson, formerly Director of the Long Ashton Research Station.
The celebrations began the previous Friday evening when the All Saints' church choir, of which John is a member, joined him and sung happy birthday in his garden - in Portuguese and Welsh as well as English, to reflect aspects of John's life.
His 90th birthday on Sunday, 23rd July, 2000 was an occasion for much celebration by his family and friends
John's son, Colin and partner, Mo, were over from Barbados, and had arranged by e-mail with the WI to bake and suitably decorate a couple of cakes ......
..... which John ceremoniously cut ......
On Saturday, 22nd, John entertained a large number of his former students - stretching back over 50 years -
who had come to pay him homage, eat lunch and listen to what John promised would be his final lecture !
Then on Sunday, just when the family thought they could have a nice, quiet evening together,
along came the Wrington Choral Society, complete with harmonium, to sing the Hallelujah Chorus re-arranged to the words of 'Happy Birthday'
Soccer School Week 2000 Held on the School field Monday, 31st July - Friday, 4th August
Presentation of soccer school trophies - Saturday, 15th December, 2000
A steady downpour on the school playground didn't deter proud parents from watching Richard Bourton present trophies on the completion of Course 6.
Richard was organiser of the highly successful soccer school which began during the summer holidays (see photos).
Since the earliest days of the village minibus, a fund-raising lunch has been held in early August. For many years, this was at Yeomans, but latterly at Glaisters, by kind invitation of Fiona and Andrew Densham.
In 2000, it was on Saturday, 5th August
On this superbly sunny day, there were many sheltered spots in the gardens to take the food.
A mouthwatering selection of quiches, sausages, and salads
As well as eating, there were opportunities to contribute to minibus funds at the drinks and draw tables
After a few well-chosen words from the Chairman, Brian Beck, it only remained for Fiona Densham to draw the first ticket for the draw .....
.... making some very happy, and others wishing they'd bought a different colour
