It's at this point that Dorothy falls in with the scarecrow who does his best to point her in the right direction ...
... and he's not much more successful in making his legs take his weight ...
... although his biggest problem, he says, is his lack of that vital organ - a brain ...
... nevertheless he has one or two quite reasonable suggestions to make about negotiating their way over a bridge ...
... which, with some black magic help, insists on always returning them to their point of embarkation ...
... but, get over they eventually manage to do, and a rather stiff character turns out to be a tin man in need of a little lubrication in some essential spots ...
... and when his jaws work again, he tells them he, too, is lacking something he'd rather have - a heart ...
... indeed, he even knows a song on the subject, and once he's got that off his chest, he's ready to join Dorothy and scarecrow on their journey to the Emerald city ...
... but, before they finally make it along that yellow brick road, they are to be joined by a lion who's roar is worse than his bite - if, that is, he's ever done anything so bold as to bite anything or anybody ...
... so we can hardly be surprised to learn that what he lacks .. is a sense of courage ...
... not that this inhibits him from going boldly forth with his new-found companions ...
... who find their next obstacle isn't so much dangerous, as exhausting - the jitterbugs ...
... which, once they take hold of your nervous system, aren't likely to let you rest ...
... so it's just as well the sorceress turns up to scatter her fairy dust and freeze them solid - although she does remember the anti-freeze for Dorothy and co ...
... so they can finally strike out with all the energy at their command along that yellow brick road
