WINTER SHOW! *save the date*!!

We are holding a show of interest evening for our winter production on Tuesday 17th September 7.30-9.30pm in the Wrington Memorial Hall

Wrington Drama Club

AGM 21st 2024

Chair’s report

Looking Back

I stepped in as the chair in July 2022.

We welcomed new members to the committee and we said goodbye to others, so I started with a good mix of people in the know and some new enthusiasts too.

The committee members have been very supportive and active and I would especially like to say thank you to Richard for showing me the ropes.

One Million Tiny Plays About Britain

A last minute move from outdoors to indoors at St Mary’s church proved to be the perfect setting for this set of very short plays. It gave the actors a chance to show off their versatility and an opportunity for one of our young members (Louise Maitland-Round) to have a go at directing. And she was brilliant!

Head over Heels!

The long awaited (this was an idea that was born before COVID!) home grown script and ABBA compilation extravaganza! It must be one of the biggest cast sizes we have ever had!  We welcomed new members to this production and it provided brilliant roles for some of our more seasoned actors as well as our youth group.

So much hard work went into this production and the results were amazing!

A total sell out!

London Suite

4 one act plays all set in the same hotel room, very different characters & plot in each one. It meant we didn’t have to worry about set changes and Julie K was able to put her artistic skills to great use in designing a set fit for a posh London Hotel!

Lots of versatile acting and characterizations in this one – some sad moments & lots of laughs!

The NODA rep attended on the opening night and we have a rave review from him!

This was another great success!

In November 2023 we hosted a Murder Mystery evening for the Churchill Village Hall group. We had a lot of great feedback and this has given us a taste for doing more of this kind of thing.

Actors workshop

We held an actors workshop which as facilitated by Gary & John – we had a lot of fun and lots to learn about movement and improvisation!

Other things that happened

Stared using the scanning APP for checking in tickets on the door, making it much quicker for people to get in and get a well-earned drink from the bar! .

Made sure we kept some paper tickets for those that need them.

Thank you to Buglers for getting into the spirit of things and selling them for us.

Fire station

Work has continued and the fire station is looking great – a super light upstairs, shelving, plasterboard on the walls – a much better space for storage and better able to find things.

Julie works tirelessly to get the costumes sorted and labelled, this is hard to do in between shows.

We were able to use upstairs during Head over Heels as a make up and hair station.

Equipment purchase

We purchased the winches for the hall and a personnel lift – all have been so useful, timesaving and much safer when rigging the lights etc.

We have welcomed many new members and also retained many who have been with us for a long time.

180 contacts

88 paid up memberships for 2023-2024 – some of which are couples/families

Many Thanks

So many people to thank – bowled over by the generosity of people who give of their time and talent, support, ideas, their front rooms & space for rehearsals and productions..

Looking forwards

Outdoor production – another Little Grimley production! This time we are lucky to be performing it in the grounds of Barley Wood house – audience will get a chance to look around the gardens and house before the show!

Winter production – TBC

We are still deciding between 2-3 options for a winter show.

Costume sort

As always, help needed to sort the costumes and props in the fire station – especially as we have kindly been given some costume sets for specific shows.– looking for volunteers for this.

Fire station organization

There is still work to be done to finish off the fire station refurbishment and so we are looking for help.

Future developments

We will use ticket tailor for memberships again this year – easy way to manage the administration and an automated way to keep contact details.
