Parking Problems in Wrington

Like many small villages, Wrington faces a growing issue: parking problems.

Limited Parking Spaces

One of the primary challenges is the limited number of parking spaces available. With narrow streets and historical buildings, expanding parking facilities is a difficult task. Residents often find themselves competing for the few available spots, leading to frustration and inconvenience.

Often cars are parked illegally at worst or inconsiderately. A recent issue has raised a perennial problem and that is parking near a junction. Parking too close to junctions can obstruct the view for drivers, making it difficult to see oncoming traffic. This increases the risk of accidents, especially in a village with narrow roads and limited visibility.

The law regarding parking near junctions in the UK is outlined in the Highway Code, which is legally enforceable. Specifically:

– **Rule 243** of the Highway Code states that you must not park within 10 metres (32 feet) of a junction, except in an authorised parking space. This is to ensure clear visibility for all road users and to prevent accidents.

Violating this rule can result in fines or penalties, as it is considered a traffic offence

  1. Parking on the north east side of Orchard Close in the vicinity of its junction with School Road is making the turn both into and out of Orchard Close hazardous by restricting the width of the highway at this location. Owing to the location of ‘planters’ on School Road, long vehicles e.g. the coaches associated with school activities, refuse lorries and delivery vans have great difficulty negotiating this junction.

    1. Many thanks Bob, Please make sure you fill in the ‘consultation’ form. I have requested that the process is suspended until a form of consultation that is accessible to all residents can be agreed.
