I am descended from John Grubb of Cornwall, England who was born in 1652 and was a Quaker who came to America on "The Kent." His wife's name was Frances Vane who is probably related in some way to Sir Henry Vane the Elder. My research has uncovered several possible "Franceses,"but I need help with finding my specific one. I am hoping that you might know how I could track down her lineage.
It is my understanding that Alexander Charles Robert Vane-Tempest-Stewart, 9th Marquess of Londonderry has been helpful to others with information on the family. I would appreciate any contact information on him or someone else who might have information on my lineage. Please contact me with any resources of which you might be aware.

I fear I'll not be much help to you. As you'll have seen from the Wrington website, my interest in the Vane family derives from the Rector of the parish from 1828 to 1870. His half-sister, Frances Anne Vane-Tempest, became the third Marchioness of Londonderry. Their aunt was Frances Anne Vane, who became Mrs Taylor. Her mother was born Frances Anne Tempest. This branch of the Vane family was descended from George, the younger son of Sir Henry Vane (1589 - 1654). Descendants of his elder son, Henry (1613 - 1662), came to hold the Manor of Wrington. I've come across no daughter called Frances, but then, I've not searched!
I, too, have heard that the current Marquess has been helpful to people interested in his family but have not so far tried to contact him. Should you do so, please (if the opportunity arises) mention my interest, and I'll do likewise.

I will be pleased to help out but we are in Kelso Washington and leaving the motel in a few minutes. We will be in transit for a few days but will end our journey in Surprise Arizona on the 16th.
I am afraid I cannot pass along Lord Londonderry's address as he would not be pleased with me. but when I get settled I will be happy to contact him to see if he is able to help.
The main family tree is available in Debrett's and through the Church of Latter Day Saints who have an old pedigree chart.
I will think on it while on the road.

As promised, but fulfilled much later than hoped, I received a reply from Lord Londonderry regarding my request for information regarding John Vane the Rector of Wrington and Frances Vane who married John Grubb.
He said he is very sorry he is cannot respond to the queries as he does not know anything about either party. I must tell you all that yes, he was helpful to me, but not with detailed information or data.
But we cannot let that news dampen our spirit for "the hunt".

I came across your page as I was trying to sort out my husband's Russell line.I have another twig to add.... His line leads back to the Russell line via his G Grandmother, Ethel Grace Wilson (m Alexander Shirrefs). She was the daughter of John Newbold Wilson and Mary Ann Eades. Mary Ann was the daughter of Francis Eades and Mary Ann Russell.
I have a note from his Grandmother which states "Granny Wilson stayed with her cousin Laura and her husband when he was Governor of Queensland and later of Victoria."
I found [your page] by googling Robert Russell R.N. Angus's Grandfather (Shirrefs) had made notes about market gardeners, York etc and it suddenly all began to make sense. Ethel Grace Wilson, the cousin of Laura, was his mother. Hope that makes sense.

The only connection I can see is the Mary Ann Russell, daughter of Robert Russell R.N., born 29 Oct 1810 and listed in William Paul McCulloch's message of 29 Dec 2005 on page 5 of this "Who was John Vane's father/mother" thread. I suppose that makes her William Harry's niece by marriage.
I wonder who the Australian governor who migrated from Queensland to Victoria was ?
